This week we’re concentrating on the playroom/basement. For some (or most of you), the basement is also the play area.
Built Ins are perfect for both the playroom and basement. They provide a great deal of storage, while keeping your area clean and uncluttered.
Cubes and bookcases are also a simple way to provide storage and organization.
Create storage out of niche. For example, if your basement has an open staircase, this can keep bulky items tucked away.
Adding seating with a built in bench, can double as addition storage.
A DIY option: Turn 12″ wide cube units on their sides and add cushions on top.
After you have divided everything into the four categories (Keep it – Throw it away – Donate it – Sell It) store toys and other objects in labeled containers or baskets. Not only do they keep things in good order, they can be a very stylish way to organize. Giving everything a home, will make it easy to ensure toys, markers, and books are put away in their proper place at the end of the day.
Give kids a designated area for different activities, such as a reading nook, an art wall, a game area, or a spot just for toys.
An economical flooring solution for an unfinished basement are floor tiles. They come in all sorts of sizes, shapes, and colors, so you can have a cushioned floor, while bringing some color into the room. Most basement do not have windows. so do’t be shy about adding color. This area should be fun….
This is a great example of using all of these tips, transforming an unfinished basement. It is well organized, using bookcases, storage containers, and the wall space.
Today there are more and more over the door organizing solutions available, if you do not have the space for built-ins or bookcases.
