Have you ever thought about downsizing where you live. The kids are grown and out of the house, so you don’t need such a large house. Or it could be the economy or you simply don’t want to spend all your hard earned money on the maintenance. Whether you are about to be “empty-nesters” or just tired of spending the money required to run a large house this downsizing article may be for you.
Downsizing your living quarters does not mean LESS style, just less stuff. The most important part of the process is to take inventory of your possessions? How long has been since you cleaned out your attic or basement? Are you holding onto things just because? The first suggestion I give my clients for downsizing is to purge, purge purge!!! Once you’ve chosen your favorite and most cherised items, the fun of design in your new space begins.
Your new smaller home can be refreshing and rejuvenating. It is easy to renew your existing furniture with updated fabrics. They can be used in a number of ways from reupholstering an old chair that you don’t want to get rid of, to adding pillows and drapery, which modernize your look. Changing your finishes on wood pieces is also a great way to update a piece of furniture that you may love, but don’t forget… adding a great lighting fixture will complete the room.
